Charmer.
Louisville, KY's Breather Resist were the precursor to Young Widows... before parting ways with vocalist Steve Sindoni (who then moved on to the band Pusher), Young Widows was called Breather Resist and played a pretty unique style that involved chaotic hardcore and noise rock while mixing in some slow moody parts... here is their last release before they "broke up"

Saturday Morning Powerviolence.
the legendary GODSTOMPER... you should know these guys by now... drum n' bass powerviolence, often imitated, never duplicated... they're releasing a split with Boston's In the Shit later this year, so keep an eye out

Final Examiner.
Its A Shame.../...and Dieseleaters
Syracuse, NY's Ed Gein are (were?) a great chaotic, metallic hardcore band... anyone who downloaded the Mutation comp from us would have had an introduction to this band if they haven't heard them already... here are both of their full lengths... Judas Goats... is slightly less chaotic, but both are pretty awesone

Each Individual Voice is Dead in the Silence.
here is As the Sun Sets' first full length, and this is them at their most coherent and focused... while 7744 is their most popular (and my personal favorite) release, Each Individual Voice... is not nearly as chaotic... members went on to bands like Daughters, Umbrella, and Zombifying Venom, among others

Things We Lost in the Fire/The Great Destroyer.
here are the two best releases by Duluth, MN's Low... Low play depressing, downtrodden, melodic yet minimalistic indie rock... they keep a very slow pace throughout, but delicate vocal harmonies, catchy melodies, and interesting usage of instrumentation other than guitar/bass/drums will hold your interest while the music pushes you further down into your shame spiral

Turn of the Century Metalcore.
here are two records that came out in the early 2000s that are extremely underrated, but also very influential... I know there is a huge stigma against metalcore because of what it eventually turned into (AKA: unoriginal melodic death metal with unoriginal DUN DUN WEE breakdowns), but these albums were both ahead of their time

The God Complex.
the new album from upstate NY's Another Breath... AB play extremely good melodic hardcore, but on this album, they seemed to take themselves in a different direction lyrically... in the past, they had a lot of lyrics dealing with personal matters, but with this record, the prevaling theme is religion, seemingly going for somewhat of a concept record on God (I don't know this for a fact, but the title of the record is The God Complex, so I would assume it was intentional)... anyways, solid record for anyone into melodic hardcore

Excruciation.
xFilesx was formed in New Bedford, MA in 2000 initially as a joke band, but gained popularity rather quickly throughout their short existence... They only lasted about 3 years, but in that time, they evolved into being a pretty influential straight-edge hardcore/powerviolence band... members went on to bands such as Breathing Fire, Mind Eraser, Soul Swallower, and Wolf Whistle... this is their most popular record, but if there's enough interest (or requests), I'll gladly post the other stuff I have of theirs

Loose Screws.
One of my early favorites for the top 10 of this year, Extortion does it again... I believe Extortion is the band I've posted about the most since I started here (Exhibit A, B, and C), but they deserve whatever publicity they can get IMO... great angry grind/powerviolence with shouted vocals from down under

The Inalienable Dreamless.
At the turn of the century, Discordance Axis was at the forefront of grind... Featuring Jon Chang on vocals (now of Gridlink and Hayaino Daisuki) and THE God Amongst Men, Dave Witte on drums, DA was abrasive, fast, loud, bone-chilling, and influential grind... Any fan of grind who has not heard this needs to do so

Old Wounds.
Fractured.
fuck Trivium... not only because their music is bad, but because Matt Heafy decided to focus on them instead of this great band... Capharnaum were a technical death metal band out of Sanford, FL... Matt Heafy of Trivium fame (really fuck that band) was the vocalist, but he isn't the only member of note... famed metal producer Jason Suecof played guitar and did backing vocals, his brother Jordan played drums, and they were the two men who made up THE ALMIGHTY CROTCHDUSTER... their other guitarist Alex Vieira was also in Cannae (at least according to Capharnaum's Metal Archives page) and their bassist Mike Poggione was also in Monstrosity as well as currently being in Lecherous Nocturne... so if you want some pretty awesome death metal, download this

The Threat of Being Liked.
Hymn to the Immortal Wind.
another great record from Japan's instrumentalists Mono... this really should've been on my 2009 year end list, but I neglected to listen to it until a few days ago for whatever reason... anyone's who has ever heard Mono knows what this is, slow building instrumental songs with full of emotion that release into monstrous crescendos akin to what Explosions in the Sky or Red Sparowes do, who are both also great... if you haven't heard Mono yet, get on the ball

The Right to Arm Bears.
typically, metal bands doing the instrumental thing are predominantly influenced by sludge and/or doom... enter Electro Quarterstaff from Winnipeg, Canada... EQ plays heavy, catchy, and at times techy instrumental metal that will hold you attention throughout... always entertaining, never boring, unlike other bands of their ilk (*cough*Behold...The Arctopus*cough*)... check this out

(PS: I didn't mean this as a knock on Behold...The Arctopus, they are an extremely talented band, but to me, they are very boring... and I can't be the only one that feels that way)

Samus Octology.
here is Irepress' first record... originally released by the band themselves in 2005, Translation Loss Records re-released it in 2007 after they signed the band... even though Sol Eye Sea I is fantastic, I actually think this album is better, and judging by how many people who downloaded Sol Eye Sea I from us (around 200 according to my Mediafire folder), there should be a lot of interest for this as well

Lackadaisical Chinese Tubesocks.
okay, so I'm a bit of a Hydra Head kiss ass, but this album is one of the many reasons why... Keelhaul are a (mostly) instrumental band from Cleveland, OH... released in 2001, this album is heavy, creative, loud, and catchy as fuck... there are tons of strange time shifts, cool leads, and crushing riffs... awesome, awesome stuff

History will bury you alive.
here is the first release of one of the best bands of this past decade, Canada's Cursed... Cursed were ex-members of Left For Dead and The Swarm that played a brand of dark, angry hardcore, and they weren't afraid to think outside of the hardcore box, which is still refreshing to hear to this day... it is a damn shame they broke up because of money, especially since I never got to see them live... members went on to the band Burning Love, among other bands... do yourself a favor, and download this right now

The Cunning of Nature.
"Deranged presents the demo 7" from NYC hardcore band Nomos, originally issued as a run of 100 cassettes, now seeing a release on vinyl, with six songs in under nine minutes, influenced equally by early '80s rippers like Poison Idea, Void, and Antidote and early '90s hardcore such as Citizens Arrest, No Comment and Infest."
Brooklyn's Nomos released what is widely considered one of the best (if not the best) demos of 2009 with this six-song hardcore rager... expect to hear a lot about Nomos in the future
