Portland, OR's Transient are a fantastic female-fronted and guitared (is that even a word?) grind band... I saw them when they played Boston on a recent tour with The Communion, and both bands were awesome

Extortion are from Australia, and mix in some Powerviolence with their Grind (actually, they're kinda more Powerviolence, but they're pretty awesome, so who cares?)... these Aussies are pissed and pretty craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy

Splitter are the only band I've heard that is able to play the Nasum/Rotten Sound style of Swedish grind with the same intensity as those bands... if you miss Nasum and/or love Rotten Sound, these guys should get your attention

Shook Ones.

Melodic hardcore/pop-punk from Bellingham, WA. Their debut album, Sixteen dropped in 2005. Fans of fun, pop punk, Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, Jawbreaker need to hear this. Such a fun record. They're also touring the East coast in October.

10 song EP from one of my favorite Boston hardcore bands. They rarely play shows, so mosh in your living room. Highly recommended!

Skyzoo.

A few friends have turned me onto this dude lately and he's one of the best MC's out right now, no question. Skyzoo's from Brooklyn, and sounds like the future of Brooklyn hip-hop. Check out his work with 9th Wonder, 12 songs completed in 3 days. New LP out this month on Duck Down.

The Arkham White are a 5-piece Boston based melodic Metal band with Black Metal overtones... I know melodic Metal has become very cliche, but these guys do it very well, and unlike most American bands playing melodic Metal, they do it without cheesy DUN DUN WEE breakdowns

Life's Trade.

The debut album from Samothrace. Four songs, about 45 minutes. Produced by Sanford Parker(recorded Modern Life is War- Witness, Pelican- Australasia, and a bunch of others). One of my favorite records from 2008.
